USNH Open Education Initiative 2017-18 Student and Faculty Perceptions on OER and Open Pedagogy at Granite State College, Keene State College and Plymouth State University
The Academic Technology Steering Committee for the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) refocused the annual Academic Technology Institute (ATI) in 2015 to begin to develop the capacity of each institution within the system to undertake meaningful and complementary Open Education projects that will make student learning more effective. In the 2017 ATI, one of the four institutions, UNH, focused solely on OER while the other three institutions included both OER and Open Pedagogy projects. The results of the research presented here only includes data from those three institutions: GSC, KSC, and PSU. -
The Blob Keene State College Professor Kate Phillips (Kay Lanker) co-write this 1958 classic. Phillips is often credited with giving The Blob it's name. The New York Times review of the film at the time was quite mixed. Modern reviews of the films point out the film's connection to the American cultural subconscious in the post Sputnik 1950's. This was Steve McQueen's first lead role (note he is billed as 'Steven') This was the first feature film from Valley Forge Films. Plot Summery: When an alien lifeform lands on earth, teenager Steve Andrews is the only one who sees the blob for the treat that it is. Will he be able to convince the people of his small town of the coming danger? and will anything stop it?

The Man from Laramie The Man from Laramie is a 1955 American Western film directed by Anthony Mann and starring James Stewart, Arthur Kennedy, Donald Crisp, and Cathy O'Donnell. Written by Philip Yordan and Frank Burt, the film is about a stranger who defies a local cattle baron and his sadistic son by working for one of his oldest rivals.[2] The film was adapted from a story of the same title by Thomas T. Flynn, first published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1954, and thereafter as a novel in 1955. The Man from Laramie was one of the first Westerns to be filmed in CinemaScope to capture the vastness of the scenery. The film was also shot in Technicolor. This is the fifth and final Western collaboration between Anthony Mann and James Stewart. (Wikipedia) Shelf Location: G.2 Condition: minor mold

Rocks, Paper, Pixels: Exploring Geographic Education In The Granite State Since 2004, the NH Geographic Alliance has made a New Hampshire paper atlas and accompanying lesson plans available to teachers and students across the state. Each lesson plan goes along with one or more pages of the atlas and helps students gain an understanding of geographic maps. In 2014, the NHGA released a digital edition of the atlas. With the need to prepare students for technical careers, including geospatial technology positions, the digital atlas format provides a means to incorporate technology in the classroom. A study was conducted in seven New Hampshire schools to explore differences in the effectiveness of the paper and digital atlas formats. We created grade-specific pre and post-tests and lesson plans for K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th -8th grades. Test results were statistically analyzed to determine if there are significant differences in the learning of geographic skills using a paper format versus a digital format.

Reliability of Impact Score In Athletes With ADHD/ADD and/or LD The objective of this study is to determine the reliability of Intermediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) for athletes with ADHD/ADD and/or learning disabilities (LD) and to compare it to the reliability for non-diagnosed athletes. An existing dataset containing the ImPACT scores of high school athletes will be used. ImPACT testing is done every two years at these high schools, and students self-report their ADHD/ADD and/or LD status. Prior research indicates that scores are lower for ADHD/ADD athletes, but no study has documented the test's reliability in this population. The hypothesis is that diagnosed athletes will have a significantly lower ICC than undiagnosed and that reliability will be too low for use in return-to-play assessments. Test-retest reliability for each group will be determined using two consecutive scores of non-concussed athletes. The intra-class correlation (ICC) of each group will be compared using an independent t-test.

Ultrasound Versus Laser Therapy In Treating Elbow Pain, Range Of Motion And Grip Strength Athletes who repeatedly use the upper extremity to perform a task place high stress on the elbow, often resulting in medial or lateral joint injuries. The purpose of this study is to determine whether Ultrasound (US) or Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is more effective in treating elbow pain and improving strength and range of motion (ROM). Twenty participants will be randomly assigned to either US (n=10) or LLLT (n=10) groups. Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) will be induced by maximal repetition bicep-curls, followed by eccentric lowering of a dumbbell from elbow flexion to extension, with twenty-seconds rest between three sets and forty seconds per exercise. Therapeutic modality based on the treatment group will be provided at 24 hours post-exercise. Measurements will be taken at 24 and 48 hours. RMANOVA will be used to determine significant difference between treatment groups. The US treatment is hypothesized to enhance blood flow, membrane permeability, and connective tissue response. However, this theory must be tested to determine a superior treatment.

001 Thatch-making camp
In the early 1970s, Malay farmers sometimes commissioned Batek Teh living at Post Lebir to make thatch for their houses. This trade soon dried up as corrugated metal roofing became readily available. Here some Batek Teh have set up a camp near an abundant supply of thatch palms (Calamus castaneus) and are making rolls of thatch to trade. -
098 Men on motorbikes
By 1990, logging roads and plantation roads connected the upper Aring settlement and Post Lebir/Kampung Macang, the government-sponsored settlement on the middle Lebir River. Travel by road supplanted most river travel. Here two young men prepare to return from the upper Aring camp to Kampung Macang, where they had houses, on their motorbikes. -
004 Batek De' home area in 1975-1976
In the middle 1970s, Batek De lived in temporary camps along many of the low-elevation rivers and streams in the area shaded by diagonal lines. Now the area north of the border of the National Park (Taman Negara) has been logged and turned into rubber and oil palm plantations, so most Batek have moved into the still-forested National Park and immediately adjacent areas, with a few living at the government-sponsored settlement at Post Lebir on the middle Lebir River in Kelantan. -
089 Women and children shopping
About 1980 a road was built connecting Post Lebir and Kampung Macang with the Malay villages and towns down the Lebir River. Batek De and Batek Teh from those settlements began buying supplies at the weekly markets at the nearest village, Kampung Lalok, hiring rides with Malay traders. Here a group of Batek women and children shop at Kampung Lalok. Batek always wear Malay- or western-style clothing when visiting villages or towns. -
