• Cold Water Immersion vs. Warm Water Immersion On Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness
  Muscular injuries are common when performing eccentric exercise. This contraction causes micro-damage to muscles, producing pain associated with delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The purpose of this study is to determine which prevention method (warm immersion prior or cold immersion post) provides the greatest relief of DOMS-induced pain and loss of strength. Thirty out-of-season Keene State College athletes, ages 17-24 years, will be recruited as participants. Participants will be randomized to two treatment groups: warm immersion prior exercise or cold immersion post. Slow lowering of a dumbbell (eccentric exercise) will be performed with their non-dominant wrist extensors. Pain (visual analog scale) and grip strength (dynamometer) will be recorded at baseline, post-treatment, 24 hours post, and 48 hours post. A RMANOVA will be used to compare groups; significant results will be followed by t-tests. It is hypothesized that heat before exercise will have a greater reduction in DOMS due to changes in muscle extensibility and elasticity.

• How Much Does Social Media Influence Identity?
  Companies like Facebook and Twitter have reputations as being public, easily-accessible, open forums that promote spaces where all users can freely share their ideas, values, and beliefs. This study is interested in two phenomenon: Whether or not the ideas and beliefs posted by users influences the company's image; and also, how these forums contribute positively or negatively to the user's personal and professional identities. Looking through the lenses of organizational culture theory and cultivation theory, the goal of this research is to find the extent to which these online open forum cultures influence the identities of both the company and the user. The questions will be analyzed by interviewing participants regarding their usage of these platforms, their perceptions of the companies, and their experience with open forums and their own identity. Do Facebook and Twitter contribute positively or negatively to identity?
• Discrepancies In Cognitive Performance Between Male and Female Collegiate Hockey Players Post-Concussion
  Ice hockey players have been shown to experience greater numbers of concussions compared to other contact sport athletes. Furthermore, female athletes have been shown to experience a greater number of and more severe post-concussion symptoms than males. Previously concussed members of the male and female KSC club hockey teams will be given four computerized tests measuring their ability to recognize and respond to rapidly presented images. Student athletes from sports other than hockey who haven't experienced a concussion will be given the same computerized tests. Findings are expected to show that previously concussed female ice hockey players will have slower response times and lower scores than previously concussed male ice hockey players; and that previously concussed hockey players of both sexes will have slower response times and lower scores than non-concussed student athletes. Results may highlight a need to reexamine how concussions are screened for and treated between sexes.
