Walking in the river On reverse: April, 1962. Kampong Jinteh - Semai. 241. Three women and a man walking up the River Jinteh to go fishing. The women will use the baskets they carry called senqein. Note the dog accompanying them. Frequently dogs will hunt out a frog.

Girl looking for fish On reverse: April, 1962. Kampong Jinteh - Semai. 239. This child is a girl about 10 named Perankub, she is in the small river Jinteh. She has lifted a tubular piece of wood out of the water and is looking in it for fish. One of the less effective ways of fishing. Note the bulge in the back of her sarong: she is carrying tobacco and leaves for making cigarettes.

The woman is carrying a raga (basket) containing pieces of ubi kayu stalk to be planted. The man holds a pole which is plunged in the ground at an angle to make a hole for the ubi kayu stalk. Note the string she wears around her hips - the children wear these just for play - and notice the way her hands are placed so as to cover her pubic area - she is about 10 yrs. and is becoming really concious of the need to cover her pubic area. Sometimes she forgets. A young boy stands to her left. At this age boys and girls can bathe together
