Only You, Elvis, and Balls: A Choreographic Exploration of Awkwardness
Item
- Description
- L. P. Young Student Center, Mabel Brown Room
- This presentation reveals the choreographic process of taking common experiences of finding oneself in an awkward moment and translating the emotions and physicality that arise into an abstract modern dance. The focus of this process was to expose the awkwardness in order to discover the many emotional states that can occur out of embarrassment and to uncover the physicality that grows from each state. The result is a dance that is a retrospective look at human awkwardness and the humor that exists within these moments. Beginning with a description of the creative process in the making of Only You, Elvis, and Balls, the choreographer and performers will present moments from the rehearsal process. These moments will demonstrate the exploratory creative process that resulted in this abstract, theatrical dance. The presentation will conclude with a performance of the nine minute piece in its entirety followed by time for questions from the audience.
