- In today's diverse school settings, learning environments at all grade levels play a pivotal role in student academic, social, and emotional success. Through our exploration of research on various school settings, domestic and abroad, we will share the multiple factors that positively or negatively impact learning environments. Many educational reformers continue to champion the effectiveness of public schools, while others believe homeschooling and private institutions are more effective than public schools. However, as a whole they do not necessarily outperform public schools when factors such as family income, class size, student demographic composition, and the different impact of state and federal laws are taken into consideration. After examining the contrast between private, public, and homeschools in the United States, we extended our comparison to public school settings in England. As we present our findings on differences in education, we discuss the connection between type of schooling and students' educational success.
