- In our media today, we frequently hear about the controversy surrounding standardized testing and low student performance. We will share our research of various cultural topics not always considered in the conversation regarding student achievement. The topics that we will explore in our presentation are the importance of teaching and learning about historical atrocities such as the Holocaust, the importance in understanding students who are living under the poverty line, and the issues of cultural difference in a classroom, and special education. These topics all relate to discrimination amongst students that may be present in societies classrooms. We will then pursue the steps that have been previously taken to resolve these obstacles through various educational reforms and the history of inclusive education. Bringing our research together within past and current events, our findings suggests serious consideration be given to the cultural factors that impact learning environments and student achievements.
