- At an early age, children learn about numbers and two important operations: addition and multiplication. There are, however, other ways one can define these operations. In tropical mathematics, one defines the 'addition' of two real numbers as the minimum of the two numbers and the 'multiplication' as the sum of the two numbers. This talk will present many of the interesting properties that can be deduced from these definitions along with a surprising application in economics.
