The purpose of this study is to evaluate the gender differences between females in upper-level foreign language major classes and upper-level Mathematics college courses for majors. The study focuses on the social construction on gender, and its impact on why more females take, and enjoy studying foreign languages more often than males. The participants will be given two surveys: the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE), and the Attitudes toward Women Scale (ATWS). The results of these surveys will be analyzed to determine if there are significant differences in attitudes toward women and levels of self-efficacy between the females who are Mathematics and foreign language majors. It is expected that the foreign language majors will have higher scores on GSE, and more egalitarian views of women based on the ATWS. This study builds upon previous studies that do not focus specifically on females in mathematics and foreign language majors.
