en_US This presentation was given at the 2018 Academic Excellence Conference.

en_US This workshop will focus on authentic and formative assessment in the instrumental music ensemble setting in order to measure skill development, provide specific feedback, and guide improvement for developing musicians. Discussion will include creating effective rubrics and their application to determine an ensemble’s performance quality. The presenters will provide online resources for creating rubrics and introduce definitions of musical elements (i.e. pitch, rhythm, articulation, dynamics and tone quality) for assessing performance quality. Attendees will watch and listen to brief performance videos, then assess each criteria using the provided rubric supported by the performance area of National Core Arts Standards. A brief period of question and answer will conclude the session.
