The course makes extensive use of multimedia resources to include: interactive language programs, video, and the Internet. Does not satisfy the Arts and Humanities language requirement. Fall, Spring, Summer. PROPOSED COURSE NUMBER and/or TITLE: IHSP 100 Basic Spanish Language and Culture PROPOSED COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to basic skills to communicate about personal and everyday topics, and exploration of cultural diversity within the contemporary Spanish-speaking world. For students with little or no prior knowledge of Spanish. Does not satisfy the Arts and Humanities language requirement. Fall, Spring, Summer. Updated 18 April 2008 LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will be able to produce and understand both orally and in writing brief dialogues and descriptions of everyday topics such as personal information, interests and hobbies, schedules, and travel information. Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the geography and culture of countries where Spanish is spoken INTEGRATIVE STUDIES CONTENT OUTCOME This course will explore language use, linguistic forms, and language’s ability to change society and ourselves. INTEGRATIVE STUDIES PROGRAM OUTCOMES - Diversity Students will be able to recognize how [language] differences shape approaches to identity, knowledge, and power.
