The ISPC recommends the following for implementation as a policy for identifying courses designed to meet the Interdisciplinary category in the ISP. 1. Courses submitted by faculty from a single department may be identified as IIxxxx, where xxxx is the Department code, for example IITDS or IIWS. 2. The II prefix—with no departmental identification noted. Examples: II -350 Nicaragua in Change, II - 301 – title. This option is intended for interdisciplinary courses that draw from two or more disciplines or that are trying to reach students from across a wide variety of disciplinary majors (and not just those with disciplinary interests because they are majors in specific programs). This designation can also be requested by proposals originating from a single department or faculty member. Rationale: Cross listing of courses that arise from two or more disciplines is cumbersome and could create issues for students regarding repeating courses under the Forgiveness Policy.
