Course Addition Number Change Title Change Credit Change Description Change Prerequisite Change Course Deletion Course Replacement Other: EXISTING (OLD) DATA: NA PROPOSED (NEW) COURSE TITLE: INBIO 104 LAB BIOLOGY TOPICS PROPOSED (NEW) COURSE DESCRIPTION: INBIO 104 LAB BIOLOGY TOPICS An integrated lecture-lab course for nonmajors that explores biological topics through hands-on investigative activities. Will focus on a theme, such as marine biology or ecology. Can be repeated for elective credit but not ISP credit as topics change. Will satisfy the lab science requirement for education majors. Fall, Spring. LEARNING OUTCOMES: State knowledge and/or skills students will be expected to demonstrate upon completion of this course. Integrative Skills: • Critical thinking • Technological fluency: students will demonstrate basic skills with biological laboratory equipment such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, pH meters, DNA sequencers, etc. Perspectives Outcomes: • Articulate an understanding of representative theories in the Biological Sciences • Understand how the scientific method differs from other modes of inquiry and ways of knowing Integrative Outcome: • Demonstrate a commitment to analyzing global issues in the biological sciences such as world diseases and global environmental problems RATIONALE: We are shifting our previously existing topics course to be suitable for the Integrative Studies program. INBIO 104 will replace the previously existing BIO 104. Learning outcomes are consistent with expectations for Perspectives courses in the IS program. RESOURCES: For course proposals, include the name of the faculty member(s) who will be teaching this course, whether tenure-track, full-time, or adjunct. Indicate whether additional staffing, facilities, and/or equipment will be required. Also, consider the long-term impact of adding a course or altering a program.
