Abstract

Planned Parenthood has been at the center of the controversy regarding whether or not it is society’s moral obligation to fund such services as abortion, STD/HIV testing, birth control and other women’s health services. With roughly one third of its funding coming from the government, many opponents of this nonprofit organization have recently lobbied to cease funding for specific services. Federal law states that government funding cannot be associated with pregnancy termination services, however there are loopholes present within these laws which may enable funds to be allocated to the provision of abortions. This panel will address the validity of this controversy from an ethical standpoint, utilizing various theories that have been surveyed throughout the Ethics course.
