Abstract

Qualitative research allows for a thorough understanding of human social and
emotional phenomena. This panel presentation focuses on the importance of
qualitative intrinsic case studies conducted by members of the Honors Senior
Capstone. Four lenses of inquiry were employed in the study: Campbell's Hero’s Journey, the dialogical self, experience in the Millennial generation, and global engagement. The research utilized these lenses to explore, through an intensive study of the constructed self, the life of an emerging adult as s/he examined the development of adult identity and leadership. The case study utilized data
analysis, history, interviews, personal narrative, and focused reflection, with
particular emphasis on the student's transformation during the college years.
The presentation will describe the process of self-examination, and will
demonstrate the value of qualitative study of the evolution of graduating college students as they seek meaningful work and an authentic adult life.
